Best in Broward Celebration, November 4th

Best in Broward Celebration, Democrats Who Make a DifferenceYou are invited to the Broward Democratic Party’s Inaugural Best in Broward Celebration. Too often those who devote an inordinate amount of time, energy, and money into making the Democratic Party successful in Broward go under-recognized. This year we have invited many of our public officials and clubs to choose an individual to honor from our community who best represents what being a volunteer and advocate for democratic principles is all about. Come meet and celebrate the men and women who make a difference in Broward Politics.

Senator Bill Nelson will be presented with the 2017 Democrat of the Year Award. Other honored guest include Congressman Ted Deutch, Congressman Alcee Hastings, and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Please join us for this exciting cocktail reception and awards program.

Wasserman Schultz: House Democrats will continue protest today on gun laws

Sun-Sentinel Editorial by Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Last Wednesday, House Democrats took to the floor of the House to stand in solidarity with millions of Americans whose lives have been torn apart by gun violence. But this time, it was different. We didn’t just stand to offer meaningful thoughts and hopeful prayers — we staged a 24-hour sit-in to demand a vote on common-sense gun laws.

In the words of voting and civil rights heroine Fannie Lou Hammer, we are “sick and tired of being sick and tired.”

Tired of trying to put into words the reason why this happened again, and why we failed to prevent it.

Tired of observing a moment of silence and stopping there, as if stillness and silence are the only powers at our command against the epidemic of gun violence.

Tired of the hurt, which aches in a place deeper than flesh and blood and bone.

Tired in our souls because one mass slaughter is already too much to bear, and yet we have suffered this hurt as a nation again and again.

Thank You! The 2016 Broward Democratic Party Victory Dinner was a resounding success.

Dear Broward Democrats,

The 2016 Broward Democratic Party Victory Dinner was a resounding success. We had an outstanding turnout – Almost 500 people attended and over $120,000 was raised at the event.

Gov. Dannel Malloy of Connecticut gave an inspiring keynote speech on important issues like the restoration of voting rights, and environmental protection and water issues here in Florida. He also earned his credentials as the Chair of the Democratic Governors Association by calling on us to focus on long-term strategies for Broward that will allow us to not only win the Presidential Election in 2016, but also the Gubernatorial Election in 2018. We look forward to growing our partnership with the Governor, and working with the DGA in the next election cycle.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us this year!  A special thank you to our Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant for her support of the event.  And, of course, we want to express our gratitude to our generous event sponsors (listed below) as well the artists who donated their time to make the event truly memorable, Carolyn Jones, Ernesto Torres, Jery Bazua, Commando and Hora Loca.

We look forward to a successful 2016 Election Cycle!

Cynthia Busch, Acting Chair Broward Democratic Executive Committee
