Education

Education

There may not be a more important issue to our County, State, and Nation than education. Broward must maintain a well educated workforce to attract business and foster prosperity. A commitment to education is an investment that produces positive results in reduction of crime, better health, economic prosperity, and a stronger democracy.

Broward County, Florida is home to the nation’s sixth largest public school system and the largest fully accredited district in the nation with over 260,000 students in more than 310 schools and education centers. Our commitment to education in Broward must be resilient to sustain our infrastructure and obligation to providing opportunities for a successful future for our children and our community. To do that we must ensure that our schools and educators have the resources needed to complete their mission, and that those resources are properly used.

Florida Democratic Party Education Platform

As Democrats, we subscribe to Article IX, Section 1, of the Florida State Constitution, which requires the state to “…provide a uniform, efficient, safe, secure and high quality system of free public schools which allows students to obtain a high quality education.” To fulfill that promise, we support:

  • Funding

Ensuring full funding by the state for our public schools, with no unfunded mandates placed upon local school districts. Education funding should not be subject to legislative bargaining.

  • Performance Measurement

Establishing evaluation measures which embrace the total educational experience and paying our teachers the wages they deserve.

  • Early Childhood Education

Providing universal access to high quality early childhood education.

  • Construction & Maintenance

Making public schools our top priority with maintenance and construction funding being thus designated.

  • Apprenticeships

    Creating world-class vocational apprenticeship programs.

  • Higher Education

Investing in high quality affordable and available higher education, both vocational and academic.

  • Training

Creating a comprehensive curriculum for educating future teachers and quality professional development for current teachers.

  • Florida’s Future

Investing in a high-quality education system is critical to Florida’s economic future.
