ABOUT THE DEC

The Democratic Executive Committee is a precinct-based organization that is governed by Florida Statute 106, with membership recorded by the Supervisor of Elections. There are currently about 800 members with membership open to registered Democrats who reside in the county.

Precinct committeemen & women, who are elected to 4-year terms by residents in their precincts at scheduled country elections, become members of the D.E.C. . Other people may be appointed either to fill vacant openings in their precincts or as at-large members of the D.E.C.

The Management Committee is comprised of two groups of individuals that work together as a team. The first group the Management Committee consists of the officers who are elected by the Membership and serve 4-year terms. The second group is made up of all 13 Area Leaders representing various regions of Broward County. After officers are selected, Area Leaders are elected for 2-year terms at our February General meeting by members of their respective areas.

The objective of the Broward County Democratic Executive Committee is to supplement the state and national organizations of the Democratic Party and to secure efficient, able, and honest national, state, county and local government in accordance with the principles of the Democratic Party. In furtherance of these goals, the Committee continuously endeavors to maintain and foster the high ideals of the Democratic Party.

This site is designed to serve as a communications center for involved Democrats with Broward County (Florida) and for interested people elsewhere who wish to know more about our dynamic group.

Why "dynamic"? For example, our well-organized "Get out the vote" system is so effective that we were able to give Bill Clinton the largest proportional margin of victory for all U.S. counties in the 1992 general election … in addition to another huge plurality in 1996. We did the same in 1994’s spirited race for Governor, which resulted in the re-election of Lawton Chiles. Finally, we provided the largest proportional victory margin for Al Gore, in the United States.
