Best in Broward Celebration, November 4th

Best in Broward Celebration, Democrats Who Make a DifferenceYou are invited to the Broward Democratic Party’s Inaugural Best in Broward Celebration. Too often those who devote an inordinate amount of time, energy, and money into making the Democratic Party successful in Broward go under-recognized. This year we have invited many of our public officials and clubs to choose an individual to honor from our community who best represents what being a volunteer and advocate for democratic principles is all about. Come meet and celebrate the men and women who make a difference in Broward Politics.

Senator Bill Nelson will be presented with the 2017 Democrat of the Year Award. Other honored guest include Congressman Ted Deutch, Congressman Alcee Hastings, and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Please join us for this exciting cocktail reception and awards program.

Jeff Pole appointed 2nd Vice Chair of the Broward Democratic Party

Democrats,

Thank you to all of our membership who attended last night’s October Special Election Meeting of the Broward Democratic Party. Unfortunately, the election to fill the vacancy in the Second Vice Chair position could not take place because quorum was not met. There were 173 voting DEC members in attendance last night. Pursuant to the Florida Democratic Party By-Laws quorum is currently set at 30% or 216 voting members in attendance.

Jeff Pole, Area Leader from Sunrise, was the only nomination. Pursuant to the by-laws, Chairwoman Cynthia Busch asked the Management Committee members in attendance to appoint Mr. Pole to the position of Second Vice Chair until a quorum can be met. The Management Committee unanimously approved the appointment. Mr. Pole’s appointment will last until an election for Second Vice Chair is held. In the meantime, Jeff Pole will immediately assume all duties and responsibilities of the Second Vice Chair. We would like to congratulate Mr. Pole on his appointment.

Pursuant to the Broward Democratic Party By-Laws:

9.02 In the event of a vacancy in an elected office of the COUNTY COMMITTEE, the Chair, with the consent of the majority of the Management Committee, may appoint acting officers until a successor is elected by the COUNTY COMMITTEE. A successor shall be elected by the COUNTY COMMITTEE at a regular or special meeting to be held within forty-five (45) days of the occurrence of the vacancy, and upon not less than fifteen (15) days written notice of such vacancy and proposed election being furnished to all members.

Dear Broward Democrats:

This is to notify you that our Second Vice Chair, Ricky Nettina has resigned his position. We are saddened that Ricky will be leaving us, and appreciate all of the great work he accomplished. We wish him all the best.

Pursuant to the bylaws the Broward Democratic Executive Committee must hold a special election meeting within 45 days of the resignation of an officer. Therefore, please note that our October Meeting Date HAS BEEN CHANGED in order to provide adequate time to conduct the election.

Therefore our meeting will take place at the following time and location:

Duties of the 2nd Vice Chair per county bylaws:

The Second Vice Chair shall perform the duties of the Chair in the absence of the Chair and First Vice Chair, or in the cast of the vacancies in both offices, and the Second Vice Chair shall perform all other duties assigned by the Chair. The Second Vice Chair, however, when acting in the absence of the elected Chair and/or the elected First Vice Chair, shall not change Standing Committee or subcommittee assignments, nor make any At-Large appointments or Special At-Large appointments. The Second Vice Chair shall be responsible for coordinating all Area Leaders and shall meet periodically with all Area Leaders and shall report the Chair and the Management Committee on such meetings.

Any Democratic precinct committee member elected in the August 30, 2016 primary is eligible to run for this DEC office. Nominations will be taken from the floor. Any member elected as a DEC officer must complete the Party’s loyalty oath again before they are eligible to serve.

Remembering Diane Glasser

Fellow Democrats,

We are saddened to say a great Democratic leader, Diane Glasser, passed away early Tuesday morning at the age of 89. Diane entered the world of Democratic activism with a passion. Throughout her long career in the Democratic Party she was a local Democratic Club President, and was a founding member of the Tamarac/Sawgrass Democratic Club. Diane was elected State Committeewoman on six occasions, and served as representative of Broward County at the Florida Democratic Party. She also served as a representative of the state of Florida in the capacity a member of the Democratic National Committee for 24 years.
Diane was also an early fighter for social justice, and spoke out for those who could not speak for themselves. Specifically, she spoke out on both Black and LGBTQ issues in a time where these views were not widely held. Diane’s civic responsibility and civic engagement made Broward a better community, and her wisdom, guidance, and leadership will be missed.

Diane’s service will be held at the
Star of David Cemetery
Sunday at 10:30AM
7801 Bailey Rd, North Lauderdale, FL 33068

Sincerely,

Mitch Ceasar – Former Chair of the Broward Democratic Party
Cynthia Busch – Chair of the Broward Democratic Party
